„Hail To The Chief“

 

Hail to the Chief (zu Deutsch etwa „Gruß dem Häuptling“) ist der offizielle Präsidialsalut für den Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, der ihn bei fast allen öffentlichen Auftritten begleitet. Vorher werden für den Präsidenten vier Trommelwirbel und Fanfaren (ruffles and flourishes) gespielt.

Composend around 1812 by the songwriter James Sanderson (c. 1769 – c. 1841); a self-taught English violinist and the conductor of the Surrey Theatre, London.

 

 

Hail to the Chief was published in Philadelphia as March and Chorus in the Dramatic Romance of the Lady of the Lake. Many parodies appeared, an indication of great popularity.
